5th Grade Highlights

In 5th grade students learn about many exciting topics. In Social Studies, they learn about the Pre Columbian cultures of the New World, the exchange and conflict of the Age of Exploration, life in Colonial America, and the American Revolution. Students will participate in weekly art lessons where different curricular themes and standards are incorporated. In 5th grade, students learn to write five paragraph informative essays as well as crafting narratives based on English Language Arts standards. Math concepts that are developed include decimals, place value, fractions, classifying geometrical shapes, graphing, unit conversions, and numerical expressions. The first semester will provide students an opportunity to create their own company and experience the entrepreneurial process. The second semester we will practice and perform a play as a part of our STEAM goals and we will go to camp in Mendocino County. The school year is packed with excitement and opportunities to learn!

Science!!!

Our class will have a double dose of science this school year! This year we will focus on Earth and Space Science which includes geology, oceanography, meteorology, environmental science, and astrology!

6th Grade Highlights

As the oldest(and wisest) students on the campus, our first semester will include analyzing a real world problem, gathering data and research to come up with solutions, with the end goal of creating real change. In Social Studies, 6th graders will focus on the Ancient World and how cultures and societies evolved and contributed to the advancement of humankind. We will read and discuss several meaningful novels in literature circles where they will be challenged to defend their position and articulate their ideas. Writing in 6th grade focuses on opinion pieces as well as argumentative essays. The second semester, 6th graders will take part in Passport to Success which is a joint program with Georgetown School that helps them transition as a cohort into 7th grade. The culminating activity is 6th grade camp  in May!
